Valentine's Day!

~Pumpkin is currently 18 months old~

Well, we didn't do much for Valentine's Day. I did, however, find some fun learning based activities for Pumpkin to do with a Valentine's Day theme: we made cards out of his footprints for his grandparents, we made some yummy treats, and we practiced working on motor skills: beading!

Here he is, gluing his footprints onto construction paper to make his Valentine's!

Making Berry Gummy Hearts (the recipe is from the February issue of Parents magazine)

And beading! This is a new skill for Pumpkin. We used a purple pipe cleaner and pink and purple beads, to maintain the Valentine's Day theme.

I'm sure there's a lot more we could have done, but as adults, we had a pretty low key holiday, so we maintained that with Pumpkin. He did very much enjoy the Berry Gummy Hearts!

Tot School: Letter F

~Pumpkin is currently 18 months old~

Welcome to Letter F week! As always, we did lots of coloring pages with the letter F and things that start with the letter F. I really like this picture of Pumpkin and Dadda, coloring. Although, it doesn't look like Pumpkin's doing any coloring! Pumpkin absolutely adores his Dadda.

Since Pumpkin loves the book The Rainbow Fish, the letter for his Alphabet Book is a Rainbow Fish with glittering, shiny scales out of tin foil. The idea came from Now I Know My ABCs at Totally Tots.

We also made a picture using foam fish stickers. Pumpkin likes stickers and glue, so this was relatively easy for him.

To go along with Foot and Finger, we made footprints and did fingerpainting. We also made a collage of feet we cut out of a magazine, which I unfortunately don't have a picture of.

We also did some work with Frogs! Since Pumpkin likes gluing things, we made a couple of frogs out of different shapes: circles and hearts.

We also re-introduced Do-A-Dot markers this week. I've tried to introduce them previously, but Pumpkin was more interested in trying to taste them. So I pulled them back out this week. He needs to sit in my lap and have my hand over his while using them, but he got the idea of how they are supposed to be used.

It's been a wonderful week with the letter F!

Tot School: Letters D & E

Pumpkin is currently 18 months old.

With all the craziness that is my household, I haven't had much time for blogging about our Tot School Adventures! We've worked on both the Letters D and E over the past 2 weeks, so I'll combine them into one post to catch up.

Letter D!

We focused on Dinosaurs for Letter D. Pumpkin loves the show Dinosaur Train, so I figured this week would be an awesome opportunity to build on that show. Plus, there are lots and lots of resources available for Dinosaurs on the web! Here are a few of our activities.

The letter D for our Alphabet Book (from Now I Know My ABCs at Totally Tots)

We made a D out of pom poms:

And, of course, our Letter D collage:

There are also lots and lots of Mommy Made Printables available that we used as well! From 1+1+1=1, a Dinosaur Tot Pack:

And from Confessions of a Homeschooler:

We have the Melissa & Doug wooden Dinosaur magnets. Those are always fun to play with! We also have lots of dinosaurs that we acquired out of the dollar bins at WalMart, and a small set of dinos and rocks. Pumpkin loves to roar like a Dinosaur!

Letter E!
I don't have much for pictures of Pumpkin for our Letter E week. I do, however, have some pictures of our activities. We started the week by making the Letter E out of elbow macaroni.
He had so much fun with the elbows, that we had to get out another piece of paper and make a collage.

And we made a collage out of eyes cut out from a magazine.

We also worked with numbers a little bit. We found these Preschool Printables: Pom Pom Numbers from 1+1+1=1.

We made an E for our Alphabet Book, we had Enchiladas for dinner, and we had lots of fun with Elmo. Our Tot School time is always filled with happiness and laughter. I'm so glad that Pumpkin has so much fun with all of these activities.

And my favorite picture of the week:
This is what happens when you tell Pumpkin that Auntie would like some macaroni art. :)
